Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Supporters Trust?
A Supporters’ Trust is a democratic organisation of supporters, organised to increase the influence of the fans in their club, as well as strengthening links between the club and the community. All Supporters Trusts in the UK bar one are set up as Industrial & Provident Societies, and this is the legal structure that Seadog Trust has utilised. An IPS is a legal entity registered with the Financial Services Authority. They are run for the mutual benefit of their members on a not for profit basis. Any surplus monies generated are ploughed back into the organisation to provide better services and facilities. As an IPS, Supporters Trusts have the legal constitution to not only have Board representation at their club but also to take ownership of their football club. Scarborough Athletic FC is now one such example in what is a growing trend. How Does it Work?
Membership of Seadog Trust is open to any individual or corporate body. Each member owns one single share in the Trust. No individual or corporate body is permitted to own more than one share, and shares are non-transferable. Being a member entitles you to one vote at Trust General Meetings. In addition, any member of the Trust over the age of 18 is able to stand for election to the Trust Board.
Who Runs Seadog Trust?
Seadog Trust is run by an elected Board of Directors. To find out who is on the current board, see Trust Board.
How Do I Get Involved?
Anyone who wishes to get involved will be more than welcome - the Trust Board cannot do everything by themselves. We are particularly interested in hearing from fans with fundraising ideas, and also those with business/management experience. Please get in touch via our e-mail address - info@scarboroughathletic.com - and we will make use of your skills!
